Election Commitment: New York Second Amendment Enforcement Task Group

Day One Executive Commitment

I, [Candidate Name], as a candidate for Governor of the State of New York, make this firm and public commitment to the voters of New York:

If elected Governor, on Day One of my administration, I will issue an Executive Order establishing and activating a New York Second Amendment Enforcement Task Group to aggressively defend the constitutional rights of law-abiding New Yorkers.

Statement of Policy

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 4 of the New York State Constitution protect a fundamental individual right. That right has been repeatedly undermined by unconstitutional statutes, overbroad regulations, and hostile enforcement practices. This will not continue under my administration.

It shall be the official policy of the Executive Branch of New York State to treat the Second Amendment with the same force, priority, and respect as every other fundamental constitutional right.

Mission of the Task Group

The New York Second Amendment Enforcement Task Group shall be charged with immediate action, including:

  • Initiating and supporting litigation to challenge unconstitutional state and local firearms laws and regulations;
  • Reviewing existing New York statutes, rules, and enforcement policies for compliance with Supreme Court precedent, including Heller, McDonald, and Bruen;
  • Directing state agencies to align enforcement practices with constitutional requirements;
  • Recommending executive actions, legislative reforms, and regulatory repeals necessary to restore constitutional compliance;
  • Coordinating with outside counsel and allied organizations when appropriate to advance these objectives.

Structure

  • The Governor shall serve as Chair of the Task Group or designate a senior executive official.
  • The Task Group shall include representatives from the Governor’s Office, state law enforcement leadership, and other agencies or experts designated by the Governor.

Accountability

The Task Group will begin work immediately and provide formal recommendations to the Governor on an expedited basis. Results—not rhetoric—will be the standard.

Binding Election Pledge

This document is an enforceable election commitment. New Yorkers may rely on this pledge as a guarantee of immediate executive action if I am elected Governor.
